Maya Abdominal Massage is very effective for supporting a woman’s health from menarche through menopause and beyond.

The slow, rhythmic strokes of the massage have a soothing effect on the central nervous system, thereby reducing cortisol levels. In addition, release of adhesions and scar tissue around the lumbar spine, sacrum and coccyx optimize nerve messaging from this area to the pelvic and abdominal organs.

The massage is very effective for releasing scar tissue and adhesions from prior surgeries such as appendectomy, cesarean section and hysterectomy, or from infections and endometriosis, all of which can block circulation to and function of other organs. As emotional pain can be held in the body, most commonly in the solar plexus and abdominal region, massage here can allow for release of long-held tensions and healing of past traumas.

ANATOMICAL APPLICATIONS

The uterus is a hollow muscular organ positioned in the middle of the pelvic bowl, above and behind the bladder and in front of the rectum. It is suspended by nine ligaments and connective tissue, and supported by the pelvic floor muscles below. The ligaments have a reflexogenic quality and can lengthen to allow uterine movement for normal physiologic functioning such as menstruation, ovulation pregnancy and filling and emptying of the bladder and rectum. For optimum health and functioning in menstruation, conception, pregnancy and childbirth, the uterus requires excellent blood flow, nerve supply from the spinal column and lymphatic drainage.

The uterus can slip out of place due to overstretching, strain or weakness of its ligaments, distortion and inelasticity of the connective tissue and weakening of the pelvic floor muscles. Some of the causes are poor pelvic alignment, falls/car accidents, running on cement surfaces, blows to the sacrum/coccyx, chronic constipation, chronic coughing, surgical procedures, extended pushing during childbirth, pregnancies that are close together, carrying heavy objects (especially just before and during menses and too soon after childbirth), and emotional armoring from rape, sexual abuse and incest.

UTERINE POSITIONS

A shift in position of the uterus causes pressure on the blood vessels, lymphatic vessels and nerves that feed the uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries and pass to and from the legs. The uterus can also put pressure on the other pelvic organs such as the bladder, rectum or ovaries, all of which leads to congestion and an acidic environment in the pelvis.

Some or all of these common symptoms can be the result of the position of a woman's uterus. This list contains the most common symptoms that are improved by the inclusion of Maya Abdominal Massage into one’s healthcare:

  • painful periods
  • irregular periods
  • painful ovulation

“The uterus is a woman’s center. If her uterus is not in proper position and good health, nothing in her life will be right. She will be as out of balance as her uterus.”
